Stereotypically speaking, when someone mentions a demographic of people who habitually drink large quantities of beer, who do you think of? Nascar watching rednecks? Three hundred pounds of muscle germans? Brits with their outstretched pinkies? Whoever it is, I’ll bet the first on your list is not the Vietnamese. Lo and behold, though, it seems that the love of beer stretches to every nook and cranny of the globe. As this article informed us, VBL Da Nang Ltd., a relatively small brewer from Da Nang, Vietnam, just opened a new production line pushing out 50,000 bottles every hour. That’s a lot of beer! What’s even more impressive is that with just this one upgrade to the brewery they bought from Foster’s three years ago, their total production will almost double.
VBL is a fast growing brewery catering to a fast growing market, so good for them. We read that, in Vietnam, total sales of beer by volume has increased by over 50% in the last five years. It looks like these folks are trying to give us in the States a run for our money. But hey, we say more power to them, competition breeds improvement and motivation. We all know that Americans as a unit don’t like to be bettered or one uped, so maybe we’ll start seeing some higher increases in beer production and sales. So here’s a message to all you brewers out there; you keep makin’ ‘em, we’ll keep drinkin’ ‘em.
Chúc sức khoẻ!
