Mid-Year National Beer Stats

Okay this is very cool folks. According to  this article, we craft brew lovers are kickin’ butt and takin’ names across the country. You can read the original article to get the specific stats but the gist is this… in spite of an economy that still has yet to start climbing back up, we beer lovers are together ensuring that our favorite brewers are part of an ever growing industry! That’s right, craft beer sales are up, and so is the volume of production. But wait, theres more! In spite of an overall drop in volume sales (including the big boys like Anheisser and Coors) being down 2.7 percent, craft beers are up over 9 percent. Now, none of us are mathematicians, but we pulled out the TI calculators and called in some consultants to crunched some numbers and figure that means the big boys are down almost 12 percent in sales. Kinda makes you feel all warm and fuzzy for the little guys who make brewing an art.

So here’s to all the craft brewers, micro-brewers and nano-brewers that always make our nights and weekends more enjoyable, and give we three nuckleheads and excuse to drink more beer.

I can clearly tell you are not a mathematician, even if you were drunk when you wrote this. Your number of down almost 12% in sales is wrong.

Craft beer sales increase of 9% is based off the previous years craft beer sales. The 9% from the previous year is only a small percentage of the entire beer market the big boys dominate- 79% to be exact. The big boys are probably really down about 3.something percent. Probably due to the economy. I think you may have been wanting to touch on market share, but you don’t really have any of the numbers to do that.

“Now, none of us are mathematicians, but we pulled out the TI calculators and called in some consultants to crunched some numbers”- that really did add a lot to the article though.

    stick to making beer

You are quite right of course, and I must admit that it was all head math and did not take into account market shares or total year profits or anything outside of the data given on the original article. I, for one, did not think anticipate anyone taking my math for anything more than a demonstrative indication that the craft brewing industry is doing so well, despite the economy.

Thank you for correcting my math, for us and all the subsequent readers. Keep coming back to check us. Who knows, if you do it enough, we might just send you a shirt!

    Cheers,

Bill, how about don’t be dick and go have a Bud Light. I’m not affiliated with this website, but don’t insult it just because your favorite beer companies suck.
